A family devastated by loss

Sophie’s life was centered on her faith in God and her unconditional love for her two daughters, Charity and Grace.

Then tragedy struck.

Charity was gravely injured in an all-terrain vehicle accident and did not survive. Sophie was overwhelmed with grief, while Grace began struggling with nightmares and the heartbreaking loss of her beloved older sister.

Knowing that Grace needed her nearby, Sophie accepted a lower-paying remote job. It was a sacrifice, but one she willingly made to give her grieving daughter the love and security she needed.

Then the remote job was discontinued.

Suddenly, Sophie had no steady income.

Today, she is urgently searching for work while falling further behind on her bills. She needs $300 to prevent her water from being shut off. Her electric bill is past due, her landlord is threatening eviction, and she has even begun skipping meals so Grace will have enough to eat.

Approximately $1,150 would help address the family’s most urgent bills and put groceries in their kitchen.

We tend to think of Thanksgiving as a time of celebration for the blessings in our lives. It is that, but it is also something more.

Thanksgiving is also an act of faith that God’s love is always stronger than the troubles we face.

His love is the very thing that has sustained Sophie Rogers these past couple of years. When her oldest daughter was killed in a horrible ATV accident, it took all of her strength and faith to get through those first, unbearable months.

Her younger daughter, Grace, however, still can’t fully accept that her big sister is never coming home again. Sophie took a work-from-home job so she could be close by whenever Grace needed her. But suddenly, a few months ago, her job was eliminated.

Now her bills have fallen dangerously behind and she needs our help, just until she can find a new job.
