About Us
The Edmundite Missions focus on the needs of the African- American poor of the Deep South, serving primarily four counties of central Alabama. The Missions respond to those needs through several outreach ministries in Dallas, Wilcox, Lowndes and Monroe counties. Support for these ministries comes from the prayers and donations of caring people around the country.
Sisters from several Orders have joined the work of the Missions since its early years, serving as God’s hands and feet to the poor. Sisters serve in all the Missions’ Matthew 25 ministries, in feeding the hungry, healing the sick, providing clothes for those in need, repairing houses and visiting the prisoners. Sisters also teach all ages, from preschoolers through the elderly in Learning Centers and adult day care programs.
Building communities from the inside, the Edmundites have hired local residents to serve in its ministries. Staff members who know the experience of living in poverty in the rural South can provide invaluable insight when working with those in need and also offer great compassion.
The Edmundites also serve through parishes: Queen of Peace in Selma and St. Peter Claver in New Orleans.
