
Education and Elder Outreach
Children, adults and seniors receive help developing their God-given talents at the Missions learning centers, community centers and outreach programs. The Missions also help support a parochial school in New Orleans.
Children and Adults
- St. Edmund's Learning Center, Selma, offers after school enrichment for first through third graders, Mondays & Wednesdays and fourth through eighth graders Tuesday & Thursdays. Its summer enrichment program reaches about 60 children, ages 6 to 14 and employs teen tutors who learn job skills and serve as mentors and teachers for younger students. For adults it offers arts and craft classes Monday mornings and computer classes, adult enrichment and pre-GED skill training Tuesday-Thursday mornings. - Pine Apple Learning Center, Pine Apple, offers preschool classes for children ages 2-5, Monday through Thursday mornings. Children get breakfast. It offers after school tutoring, Tuesdays and Thursdays. The summer enrichment program reaches preschoolers to sixth-graders with activities that enhance learning. For adults, GED classes serve adults Monday through Wednesday evenings. The Center offers Motherread to teach mothers how to bring a book to life for their children. Children
- St. Joseph Education Center, Vredenburgh, teaches preschoolers in morning and afternoon sessions Monday through Thursday, giving children a head start for school in a community with no preschool programs. Children also get breakfast. Its summer enrichment program provides fun educational experiences for preschoolers and grade school students. Adult Training
- Good Shepherd Catholic Center, Mosses, is pioneering a job training program, ALA-BAG-A, teaching women to sew one-of-a-kind handbags. Staff: Sister Rosemary Fonck, O.S.F.
Seniors

- Pine Apple Community Center offers seniors in eastern Wilcox County all day care Monday-Friday that includes educational enrichment, art, exercise, health check ups healthy snacks and Bible lessons. The program also includes a hot lunch program. - Vredenburgh Community Center offers seniors half-day craft and sewing classes Monday-Friday, along with field trips and special events. It also includes a hot lunch program. Staff: Florence Dortch, Director; Sister Kathy Navarra, S.S.J., Outreach.
- Selma Community Outreach offers a weekly education, exercise, arts and crafts, special events and meals to seniors in the city of Selma. It also offers outreach to nursing home and homebound seniors. Staff: Ethel Kinnerson, Director; Sister Margaret Martinek, O.S.F., Outreach.
- Good Shepherd Catholic Center offers weekly gatherings with art, crafts, lunch and special tips for Seniors in Mosses. Director leads educational outreach weekly to Adult Day Care Centers in White Hall, Letohatchee and Hayneville. Staff: Sister Rosemary Fonck, O.S.F.
Parochial Education
Edmundite Missions help support parochial education for 300 children in inner city New Orleans through the school year and in the summer at St. Peter Claver School, part of the Archdiocese of New Orleans, served by Edmundite priest, Father Michael Jacques, S.S.E.
