Father Stephen Hornat, S.S.E. serves as Director of Outreach Ministries. Fr. Hornat oversees the maintenance and operations of 10 Edmundite Mission Sites in the four county area known as Alabama’s Blackbelt Region, named for its rich soil and agricultural history. Working closely with site directors, he provides guidance and support while fostering an Edmundite Catholic identity in our service to the poor.

Fr. Hornat, S.S.E, is originally from Hartford, CT. He was ordained a priest of the Society of St. Edmund in 1976 and spent most of his early priestly years as Campus Minister and Associate Director of Admissions at St. Michael’s College and as Director of Vocations.

bibleHe began his ministry in the Edmundite Missions in 1990 as founder and Director of the Edmundite Missions Corps, a service program for college graduates wanting to give a year of service to the poor. In 1999, he left the missions and accepted a new assignment as Rector of St. Joseph’s Co-Cathedral in Burlington, VT. Returning to the South in 2008 Fr. Hornat is often seen wearing a tool belt while repairing someone’s home in addition to his administrative duties.
